Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities

Reduce inequality to ensure the region’s prosperity is shared with all.

Through our Rural Democracy programs, we’re working to ensure all of our neighbors feel represented and prepared to participate in the decision making processes in their community – especially have been historically marginalized.

We support community funds in their pursuit of their local and global goals.

Through Resilient Community Grants, we provide grants to organizations striving for equality in our region.

Through 2016, Community Action organizations were supported with noncompetitive grants from our Family Economic Success grant program to fund a collaborative effort in financial education and asset building programing, such as free tax preparation services, financial literacy coaching, and Individual Development Accounts.

  • Learn to recognize and appreciate differences. We all experience life in our communities differently, based on our personal histories, our ethnic or religious cultures, our physical abilities, our income, and all of the other ways we are unique members of our society. It’s essential that these differences are seen and understood to make our communities as prosperous and resilient as possible.
  • Ensure your role models, leaders, and positions of authority in your community have equal representation, especially those from historically marginalized groups.
  • Stand up against harassment. When you see or become aware of it, raise your voice against it, whether it’s at your workplace, community, home, or online space.
  • Advocate for jobs that pay a living wage to ensure everyone in the region has access to the things they need.
  • Donate to local nonprofits that address historical inequities.
