Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.

Our planning services focus on the triple bottom line: People, Planet, and shared Prosperity.

Through Safe Routes to School and other partnership with the Minnesota Department of Transportation, we lift up pedestrian safety. When we can walk and roll safely to the places we need to go, our community becomes accessible for all.

Our Early Childhood Initiative is a network of parents, educators, businesses, community leaders, faith leaders, and policymakers joined in a long-term effort to prioritize the care and development of young children. The Early Childhood Dental Network and Early Childhood Mental Health Network are two examples of how this work has grown into supportive community systems.

We support community funds in their pursuit of their local and global goals.

  • Donate and/or volunteer with nonprofits that support your community, including their boards of directors when needed.
  • Participate in civic life—vote, take the American Community Survey or U.S. Census when asked, and attend meetings or read the minutes of your city council or township board to stay informed.
  • Be a responsible consumer, including adhering to garbage and recycling policies of your county.
  • Communicate with your elected officials at the state and federal level about the importance of investing in rural physical infrastructure.
