Valdez and Worner appointed to WCI Board Jan. 18, 2008

West Central Initiative (WCI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Cristobal Valdez and Rebecca Worner to the foundation’s board of directors.


Valdez is provost at Minnesota State Community and Technical College—Detroit Lakes. Worner is pastor of East and West Zion Lutheran Churches in rural Starbuck and rural Hancock.


“We’re so glad Cris and Becky have joined the WCI Board,” ” said WCI President Nancy Straw. “Cris will provide valuable insight and counsel on educational issues in the region, and Rebecca will bring an important perspective to discussions with her experience in the nonprofit sector.


Valdez is also a board member of the Detroit Lakes Chamber of Commerce. Recently, he co-chaired Detroit Lakes Capitol for a Day. Valdez and his wife, Robin, live in Detroit Lakes and have four children: Antonio, 12; Alecia, 9; Aaron, 7; and Andrea, 3.


Worner is active in the region. She has served as a volunteer chaplain for the Rice Hospice Program in Benson and is an accompanist for the Hancock High School music program. She and her husband, Todd, live in rural Hancock and have three children: Kevin, 17; Teresa, 16; and Grace, 9.
