Get out your tennies for Walk to School Day, Oct. 7

International Walk to School day is Wednesday, October 7th and West Central Initiative would like to share this message of support with you from U.S. Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOthqO7ThVY&feature=youtu.be Walk to School Day is a gentle reminder of how simple, easy and rewarding it is to walk to school.  In a day and age where “transportation” is almost synonymous with “automobile,” Walk to School Day can remind us that a half-mile trip to school “across town” is really only a 10- to 15-minute walk (and less than a 5-minute bike ride).

There are a number of Walk to School Day events happening in communities within the nine-county region served by West Central Initiative.  These include but are not limited to:

  • Barnesville
  • Frazee
  • Detroit Lakes
  • Rothsay
  • Hawley
  • Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton
  • Alexandria
  • Glenwood
  • Starbuck

So get your walking shoes on and get ready to Walk to School!
